Elliot Thompson qualified number one in Heavy Street with a dynamite 7.47 @ 190.31 in his turbocharged Chevy Camaro. As these two photos show, in round one of Heavy Street eliminations he suffered this spectacular transmission failure just off the starting line, that resulted in a large fire. The track crew put the fire out quickly and Thompson fortunately suffered only minor burns.
