Here is the 1973 Pontiac Grand Am Funny Car owned by the late Mickey Thompson and driven by Butch Maas, show here doing a burnout prior to a run at Irwindale, California. You can see how the cars had become sleeker and more aerodynamic by the early 1970's. This car was destroyed in a horrific top end fire at the 1973 NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida.
