Why do they call them Funny Cars? The name Funny Car originally surfaced in the mid 1960s. The early Chrysler factory backed A/FXers, AKA Funny Cars, are a prime example of why people thought these cars were funny. This photo shows what the radical altered wheelbases on cars like the Sox and Martin 1965 Plymouth looked like back then. Pictured here at Fremont Raceway with the late, great Ronnie Sox at the wheel, this cars design greatly helped weight transfer and traction back in the days when drag slicks were not manufactured with todays technology. Note the fuel tank in the grille. For professional motorsports photography contact Steve Reyes at sb.reyes@cox.net
