So you think John Force goes fast? Here is one of the quickest and fastest cars in drag racing history to this day! This is Dave Anderson shown at Pomona Raceway in Pomona, California, in the early 1970’s. This hydrogen peroxide rocket car set track records all over the United States, from Hollywood, Florida, to Union Grove, Wisconsin, and even at the home of the NHRA Winternationals, Pomona, California. How quick and fast was this car? It ran the real first 300 mile per hour quarter mile run at Gainesville, Florida in 1972! Way before Kenny Bernstein did it years later. This Tony Fox owned, Dave Anderson driven, “Pollution Packer” dragster ran a 4.62 @ 368 miles per hour in 1973. That was flying! Winning Top Fuel cars back in 1973 were WAY slower than the “Pollution Packer” rocket car. Driver Dave Anderson was unfortunately killed in this car which was involved in a racing crash in 1973. Rocket dragsters were barred by NHRA and IHRA during the mid 1980’s. For professional motorsports photography contact Steve Reyes at sb.reyes@cox.net |
