“Big Daddy” Don Garlits working on his first rear engined Top Fuel Dragster in the Orange County International Raceway pit area in early 1971. Within 18 months of the debut of Garlits rear engined car all of the other competitive Top Fuel teams had switched from the old slinghots to the rear engine configuration.
