The "Drag Safari" 1954 Dodge wagon (a recreation of the original) and the refurbished original Viking tailer were on hand, and looking cool. This was the setup that Bud Con, Eric Rickman, Chic Cannon and Bud Evans used in 1954-56 to set up 16 events from coast to coast, and refine the rules and safety guidelines. They also met with local police chiefs and town leaders to explain how getting the street racers to go to a safe, legal venue was good for everybody. The Drag Safari eventualy became the Safety Safari, which continues to provide safety and track services at every major NHRA event.
