What started out as helping out a few needy families has now turned into an 11-year tradition as Biff Burger held their 11th Annual Toys For Tots Car Show. The event took place on Sunday, December 11, 2005 at Biff Burger located at 3939 49th Street in St. Petersburg. The day started out as a cool, damp, overcast day and slowly turned into a persistent rain shower. However, the spirit of generosity wasnt drenched as last years totals were beat. Over 2,500 toys were collected and over $20,000 was raised for Toys For Tots. Around 69 vehicles were registered, which was a great turnout despite the weather. While most of us were indoors watching the Bucs game or listening to the band Stone Door, the Downshifters of Brooklyn car club was judging the show cars. An auction was also held, and a $1,200 50/50 drawing saw $600 going to the winner. Event T-Shirts were also available, and all of the money raised from this show went to Toys For Tots. Representative from the US Marines were on hand to accept the toys and money that were donated. By late afternoon it was time for the awards to be given out, with the Top 50 awards handed out first, followed by many specialty awards. There were also several Best Of categories, including the decades, which ranged from the 1920s through the 2000s. Awards also went out to the Best GM, Best Ford/Lincoln-Mercury, Best Mopar and the Best Of Show, which went to Tom Lovingoods 1958 Plymouth Fury. A few choice awards were also given out, with the Downshifters of Brooklyn and the US Marines both picking out their favorites, and the Club Participation award going to the Downshifters of Brooklyn.
The 11th Annual Toys For Tots Car Show hosted by Biff Burger was a huge success, and with the participation of many generous people they did a great job of helping the Marines and their mission of giving toys to needy children at Christmas time. Everyone is already looking forward to the 12th Annual Toys For Tots Car Show at the end of 2006, but in the more immediate future mark your calendar for the 21st Annual Car Show Of The Year at Biff Burger on Sunday, May 14th. Plus Biff Burger is also the site for one of the longest running weekly cruise-ins, held every Friday night.
