The Tom Staggs Memorial award was created in 2006 to honor Tom and his contributions to many Beach Blasts, plus his friendship, after he passed away from a heart attack a little over a month before the 2006 show. This year we picked Mike Cavallaro’s cool Cocoa based 1937 Ford Woodie, which is blue with a set of tan rims wearing dog dish hub caps, beauty rings and whitewalls. The license plate reads “WOOD37” and the frame has the slogan “I Refuse To Grow Up”. In the past we have picked cars that were similar to Tom’s 1969 Olds 442 convertible for the award, but this year we figured since Tom liked all kinds of cars and trucks we shouldn’t limit the Tom Staggs Memorial to any one type. Just like everyone else, I’m sure he would have loved this ‘37 Ford Woodie.
